As of January 1, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) discontinued the use of consultation service codes 99241-99245 and 99251-99255 performed in the office and hospital setting. These services now have to be billed differently. 

Has this changed how you approach referrals from within your group practice? I have continued to provide the same amount of time and care with these patient encounters to ensure adequate medicolegal documentation to justify additional testing or performance of procedures. (more…)
