The Heart Rhythm Society, in collaboration with other stakeholders, is educating Members of Congress, their staff and the public about heart rhythm disorders. During the American Heart Month, HRS is organizing a virtual fly-in on February 23.  We ask HRS members and non-members to email their House Representatives and urge them to co-sponsor the AF Resolution (H. HRS Update: FDA Issues Alert on the Heart Drug Multaq (dronedarone) July 22, 2011

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reviewing data from the Permanent Atrial Fibrillation Outcome Study Using Dronedarone on Top of Standard Therapy (PALLAS)  study that was evaluating the effects of the antiarrhythmic drug Multaq (dronedarone) in patients with permanent atrial fibrillation. Buber et al (Circulation 2011;123:2748, PMID 21632495) hypothesized that the hormonal changes associated with menopause may affect clinical risk in this population. The authors studied 282 LQT1 (n=151) and LQT2 (n=131) women enrolled in the Long-QT Syndrome Registry. (more…)

HRS Offers Complimentary AF Awareness Resource Kit June 24, 2011

Looking ahead to National Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month in September, the Heart Rhythm Society has created complimentary AF Awareness Resource Kits.  The kits contain materials to increase patients’ knowledge about AF risk factors, symptoms, and available treatment options.  The kits include the “A-Fib Feels Like” poster, CHADS2 Scorecard, Practical Rate & Rhythm Management of Atrial Fibrillation Pocket Guide, patient education brochures, and more. 

Physicians and caregivers can complete and submit the online order form and visit the Society’s website for AF education opportunities and additional resources.

It does this by providing physicians and patients with the latest information, research, news and tools needed to advance the field of electrophysiology, by fostering better treatments and by improving doctor-patient communication. Our goal is to end suffering and death caused by heart rhythm disorders.
